The Opportunity

As a GIS Production Engineer, you will join an established geospatial delivery team responsible for producing, maintaining, and enhancing enterprise GIS data and products that support critical national outcomes.

Operating under general direction, you will execute GIS production tasks within defined engineering, quality, and service management frameworks. You will work in a secure, complex environment and apply strong geospatial engineering, data management, and automation skills to deliver high‑quality spatial products at scale.

You will collaborate closely with engineers, analysts, and operational stakeholders to ensure production workflows are efficient, repeatable, and aligned with customer requirements. This role also provides the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that uplift geospatial production maturity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce, maintain, update, and validate geospatial datasets in line with defined standards, schemas, and production schedules
  • Support end‑to‑end GIS production workflows, including data ingestion, processing, quality assurance, and release
  • Apply spatial analysis and geoprocessing techniques to deliver accurate, fit‑for‑purpose GIS products
  • Develop and maintain automated or semi‑automated geospatial production processes using scripting and GIS tools
  • Perform quality assurance and resolve routine data or production issues, escalating complex problems where required
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and contribute to documentation, continuous improvement initiatives, and informal mentoring of junior team members

What You’ll Bring

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in GIS production or geospatial data engineering roles
  • Strong knowledge of GIS platforms and tools (e.g. Esri ArcGIS suite or equivalent)
  • Experience working with spatial data formats, coordinate systems, geodatabases, and metadata standards
  • Understanding of geospatial data quality principles, validation techniques, and production workflows
  • Ability to work within structured production processes while identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in team‑based, deadline‑driven environments
  • Exposure to scripting, automation, and enterprise or regulated geospatial environments

Security Requirements

  • Australian Citizenship is mandatory
  • Active TSPV clearance is required, with the ability to meet DISA requirements

Why Apply?

  • Contribute directly to nationally significant, mission‑critical geospatial programs
  • Work within secure, highly technical environments
  • Access additional leave benefits and flexible working arrangements
  • Strong investment in training, development, and long‑term career progression
  • Collaborative, inclusive team culture that values diversity of thought and experience
